In today’s society where everyone uses the Internet, especially regarding copyright, since there are some people who monitor and turn informer, we can’t even declare which specific character we like.
On the other hand, company creates the image that worth copyright using their large capital, spreads it to everyone and people in general accept it without question.
This artwork was born from the sense of discomfort I felt over the power relationship where company forces image to public and then when someone tries to use it as some expressive material, they sue as copyright violation.
In Japan, when Christianity was oppressed by the leader, Christians made Saint Maria that looked like Buddha in order to keep them. This is the same structure in modern society. Regardless of era, it is always difficult to keep one’s faith.

誰もがインターネットを利用する現代、特に日本の著作権について、ありがたい事に一部の人々が密告する監視社会のため、満足に特定のキャラクターを大好きだと表現すら公には出来ない世の中です。

一方で企業側は大資本を武器に著作権に値するイメージを作り、そして世の中に広め、一般の人々は否応なしにそれを受け入れる。
一方的にそのイメージを押し付けておいて、いざ何か表現の題材に使おうとすると著作権違反だと訴える力関係に違和感をもったのがキッカケで本作品を制作しました。

かつて日本でも時の為政者によってキリスト教が迫害を受けた時、信者はマリア像を日本の仏像に似せたりして逃れていました。
その構図を現代に引用した形となります。
いつの時代も自身の信心を維持するのはどんな形であれ、大変ですね。
